The First Feather
The original pattern of The Backyard Bird Collection

It began with the birds we know by heart.
The flash of a cardinal in the trees. A woodpecker making himself known by knocking on the trees. The unmistakable blue of an Eastern Bluebird passing through the yard.
For the first chapter of our Feather Finders collection, we wanted to begin close to home. The Backyard Bird Collection celebrates eleven familiar species, each represented by an original hand-painted watercolor feather. Together, those individual paintings were transformed into a pattern filled with color, movement, and little reminders of the birds that inspired it.

Meet the Artist
Keegan Spera
Keegan Spera is a South Carolina Lowcountry painter and mixed-media artist whose work is inspired by the natural world—from oceans and skies to animals and the quiet details found outdoors. Working in both acrylic and watercolor, her art blends detailed realism with warmth, color, and a touch of whimsy.
For The Backyard Bird Collection, Keegan hand-painted each of the eleven watercolor feathers individually, capturing the distinctive colors and markings of the birds that inspired them. Those original paintings were then transformed into the repeating pattern that became the foundation of Feather Finders' very first collection.
